Re: Cat advice
Rats, introduced by humans, have cleansed the gene pool of several species so thoroughly that it's completely empty.

Cats seem bent on emulating what rats have done on remote islands, but in suburbia.

Yeah, I know humans have done similar stuff, but I'm inclined to give them some leeway because I am one.

Re: Cat advice
Perseus heard of Andromeda's sacrifice and mounted Pegasus in the hopes of saving her. He arrived at the coast where Andromeda was chained to a rock just as the dragon appeared. He displayed Medusa's head, which he had till then carried in a bag, to the dragon, thus turning the creature to stone. Then using the magic sword, killed the dragon and freed Andromeda. They were married and there was much rejoicing in the land. Thus in the sky one can find the constellation of Pegasus with that of Andromeda and Perseus nearby.

Dear oh dear, Sold0. I'd never have taken you for a post 96er of Greek mythology. In the ORIGINAL version, Perseus flew on winged-heeled sandals loaned from Hermes.

Modern mythology, I shit it...

Yeah... and who sat on the back of the Winged Flying Horse to defeat the Krakken... hence ASK Perseus??

A cat would, by that sort of activity, be cleaning the gene pool of two completely unrelated species and proof enough that the naming of the Beagle was one of the poorest PR decisions known to humanity.

S.S Tiddles would have been much more fitting.

Re: Cat advice
Yes, of course. But the cat is just acting to its nature. NS can pick or choose what he defends or doesn't as we are a higher species. You can't compare the innate hunting impulse of a predatory animal with the deliberate thought process of a rationale human being... Or even NS!

Geep is indignant because it is finally dawning on him that dogs are GIMPS and he is a MASSIVE NARCISSIST AND PROBABLE PSYCHOPATH for liking dogs.

Yes, this makes sense.

And it's also natural for NS to defend something other than food that makes his life pleasant - i.e., the local bird life.

It's also natural to defend your dinner (though not as ferociously as some of the fatties on here might).

It's absolutely natural behaviour for a cat to steal your dinner.

Just sit back and let them do it.

Why are you filing up over the poor ickle birdies NS? It is an absolutely natural behaviour for a cat - Circle of life and all that. Haven't you seen The Lion King? :-)

chim chim cha boo 11:56 Wed Apr 20

Absolutely nailed the cats vs dogs argument there chim. You never see a tramp with a cat on a string as a cat has too much self respect and SKILLZ to not need a human to feed them.

Re: Cat advice
Hyenas are far more closely related to dogs that cats.

But they are weird - spotted hyena females have a pseudo-penis (actually their clitoris) which is larger than the males' penis, and are very much dominant in the pack.

In social mammals, I believe that's very unusual, way behind male dominance (e.g., common chimps) and rough equality (e.g., grey wolves). I'm no expert, but I think only bonobos have similar female dominance.
